Lagoon's Seasonal Calendar

Lagoon Amusement Park operates on a seasonal schedule, with different attractions and events throughout the year. Knowing when to visit makes a huge difference in your experience—and your wallet.

Spring (April-May): Opening Season & Moderate Crowds

Best for: Families who want good weather without extreme crowds
Crowds: Low-to-moderate
Weather: 60-75°F, pleasant spring days
What's open: Full park operations, Lagoon-A-Beach waterpark opens late May

Spring is underrated. You get good weather, fewer crowds than summer, and full park operations. This is ideal for families avoiding summer heat and chaos. The only limitation: the waterpark (Lagoon-A-Beach) typically doesn't open until late May.

Summer (June-August): Peak Season, Maximum Fun

Best for: Families during school break wanting full park & waterpark access
Crowds: Very high, especially July-August
Weather: 85-95°F, hot and sunny
What's open: Everything, including waterpark, extended hours

Summer is when Lagoon shines. The waterpark is in full swing, park hours extend until 10-11 PM for evening rides, and there's a vibrant energy. But expect crowds, especially in July-August. Wait times can exceed 45 minutes for popular rides.

Pro tips: Arrive early (park opens at 10-11 AM), use single-rider lines, and visit on weekdays if possible. Mondays and Tuesdays are typically slowest.

Fall (September-October): Frightmares & Perfect Weather

Best for: Teens and adults who love Halloween, families wanting fall atmosphere
Crowds: Moderate-to-high (especially weekends)
Weather: 60-80°F, crisp fall air
What's open: Park and waterpark, plus Frightmares (horror experience) September 20-November 2

Frightmares is Lagoon's legendary Halloween event. Starting late September through early November, the park transforms into a spooky experience with haunted houses, zombie actors, and horror-themed attractions. This draws a specific crowd—teenagers and adults seeking thrills, not family groups with young kids.

Fall weather is nearly perfect for amusement parks: cool enough that you're not overheating while walking around, but warm enough for comfort. Waterpark is still open through mid-September.

Winter (December-March): Holiday Events & Low Crowds

Best for: Travelers avoiding summer crowds, holiday seekers
Crowds: Very low (except during Christmas week)
Weather: 30-45°F, occasional snow
What's open: Limited operations, specific holiday dates

Lagoon operates on a very limited winter schedule. Most of the park closes November-March, with the exception of:

  • Christmas holiday week: Full park reopens mid-December through early January with holiday lights and decorations
  • New Year's Eve: Special event with extended hours

Winter is for RV travelers who want to experience Lagoon's holiday magic without the crowds. December 20-January 2 is peak winter visitation.

Which Time is Best for Your Family?

Decision Guide

  • Small kids (under 8): Spring or early summer before peak crowds
  • Thrill-seeking teens: Summer (max rides open) or September-October (Frightmares)
  • Families avoiding crowds: Spring, early June, September, or holiday week
  • Budget-conscious visitors: Spring or fall (still open, fewer crowds = shorter lines)
  • Budget + waterpark: Late May (park just opened, waterpark fresh), early June
